Senior Regional Planner, Metropolitan Area Planning Council
Matt Smith, Senior Regional Planner at the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC), supports the agency’s economic development, housing and land use initiatives. Project work includes community economic development planning; retail, residential and market analyses; as well as zoning and housing production planning for cities and towns throughout the MAPC region, including recent work in the North Shore cities of Salem, Lynn and Gloucester. Prior to joining MAPC, Mr. Smith worked as a consultant on numerous comprehensive and economic development plans, corridor studies, downtown revitalization strategies, and blight studies. Key projects included the New Orleans Master Plan and the South Coast Rail Land Use and Economic Development Study. Mr. Smith holds a Master’s in Urban Planning from Hunter College of the City University of New York and a B.S. in Communications from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.
