Laura Kevghas

Laura is a partner at Mirus Capital Advisors, where she focuses on providing merger and acquisition services to middle market companies in the technology, business services and industrial spaces. She has spent more than 25 years in M&A, with a background that includes both investment banking and corporate development. Having sat on both sides of the negotiating table has given Laura a very unique perspective, which informs her negotiating, structuring and due diligence activities on behalf of her clients.

Over her career, Laura has completed more than 60 transactions, including the sale of companies in the business services, software, manufacturing and defense/government services sectors, along with the acquisition of numerous companies in the media space. Laura is President of the Boston chapter of The Exit Planning Exchange, and a member of The Boston Club and Vistage. Her article "Thinking About Cashing Out? How to Create Value in Your Business" has been featured in The Commonwealth Institute online e-newsletter and her published piece titled "Help! Someone Wants to Buy My Company" in the Boston Women's Business newspaper.

Laura has been a speaker on topics including “Preparing Your Company for Sale,” “The State of the Mergers & Acquisitions Market,” “An Investment Banker’s View on Increasing Opportunity and Reducing Risk,” “What’s Behind the Curtain, aka What’s the Difference Between Business Brokers and Investment Bankers and What Do They Do” and “Due Diligence Disasters” for groups of business owners, early-stage entrepreneurs and professional service providers.

Margaret Somer

Margaret joined the Massachusetts Small Business Development Center's Northeast Regional Office as its director in October 2005, after four years as director of MSBDC Boston Regional Office & Minority Business Center.

Previously, Margaret worked for 14 years in economic and business development at Massachusetts Community Development Finance Corporation (CDFC) (now MGCC). There she served as External Affairs officer and later, fund manager of the $10 million Urban Initiative Fund. For a short time, she managed a bi-national trade organization and a technology incubator. She has had two home-based businesses, as a professional potter, and later consulted to economic development groups and public agencies. She has participated in the development of new business products and programs, community development initiatives, and public affairs and government relations.

Margaret served as a board member of the Creative Economy Association of the North Shore (CEANS), as well as on Swampscott’s Election Board, Town Meeting and other Committees.

Margaret has a BA from Boston University and an MA from Tufts University. She completed her thesis at Tufts in 1999 on the turnaround of Ireland's economy, the role of the European Union and the country's emerging small business sector.
