Shehla Syed is an experienced attorney who counsels clients on all aspects of their intellectual property – trademarks, copyrights, patents and trade secrets – to help them maximize the value and enforceability of their content, brands and technology.
Shehla counsels clients in a variety of industries that have intellectual property needs including computer software and hardware, medical and life sciences, financial services, health and wellness, food and beverage, non-profits, professional organizations, business consultants and education products and services.
Shehla’s trademark practice includes the selection, screening, prosecution, licensing, maintenance and enforcement of trademarks, domestic and international. Shehla also advises clients on copyright matters, including registration, licensing, maintenance and enforcement of copyrights. Shehla’s routinely advises on and negotiates agreements that safeguard her clients’ ideas, inventions and designs. Her litigation background helps her quickly identify which pitfalls businesses need to avoid and how to enforce and protect IP for business success.
Shehla is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and has litigated intellectual property cases in district courts throughout the country. Shehla also assists clients in domain name disputes and on-line brand protection in federal court or arbitration.
In 2019 and 2020, Shehla was recognized by Super Lawyers in the area of intellectual property, a list limited to the top five percent of lawyers in Massachusetts. In 2016, Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly and the Massachusetts Bar Association awarded Shehla their Excellence in the Law award in the category of Up & Coming Lawyers.
Prior to joining West Hill, Shehla was in the Chicago office of Jenner & Block as a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property and Technology Law Group. She has also practiced at Roper & Quigg in Chicago and at Venable, LLP in Baltimore.
Shehla received her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. She received her undergraduate degree in Biology and Economics from the Johns Hopkins University.
