This course is a true introduction to Human Resource Management. The primary focus of this program is to provide participants with a broad overview of the human resource function. Areas that will be explored will include:

  • recruitment and retention,
  • compliance,
  • compensation and benefits,
  • performance management
  • employee relations.

NOTE:  This course meets for 6 sessions, Wednesday evenings, from 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm at Salem State University.  A parking permit will be emailed to you before the first class session.

Paula Barrett

Paula is experienced human resources professional with a history of success leading strategic and operational initiatives within well-established organizations and small businesses. Her diverse in-house experience includes recruitment and retention, compensation management, performance management, employee relations, policy development, and training and organizational development. Paula has partnered with managers in process improvement on a variety of issues including initiatives to reduce employee turnover and improve organizational effectiveness.

Paula is currently a Senior HR Business Partner at Insight Performance were she works with small to mid-sized organizations advising them on strategic planning as well as day to day human resource management. Before joining Insight, Paula worked in the Healthcare Industry holding various roles within human resources. Paula was an integral part of a human resources team that created a best in class organization and was recognized as an employer of choice by Fortune Magazine, Boston Globe, and Boston Business Journal.
